Do you provide transportation to and from the airport?
Yes, but you must arrange it in advance. Often there is someone who can pick up a guest from the airport; however, it is not guaranteed. Please call toll free at 1-888-907-8427 before you leave your final departure city to inquire about transportation availability upon
your arrival in Maui. Airport pick-up and drop-off services are $20 per trip. This is less than a taxi charges and is hassle free.
What is required at check-in?
Government issued picture identification, such as passport, driver's license, state/provincial or national identity card, military service card, etc. At the hostel's discretion, we may also accept valid, unexpired student ID. You must be a traveller and present your return airline ticket.
What time can I check-in?
Maui Sugar Beach Inn is open for phone calls between 8am to 9pm Hawaii Standard Time (GMT minus 10). No early checkins. Checkin starts at 12pm HST. No walk-in checkins after 10pm. For guests with an existing reservation who arrive after hours, please call the innkeeper as early as possible to make arrangements. No luggage storage at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.
How can I reserve a bed?
You can make a reservation in person at the hostel (walk-ups welcome), by phone, or by email using our online contact form. In order to make a reservation, you need a valid VISA, Mastercard, or American Express credit card. A 10% non-refundable deposit is required at time of reservation to hold the bed. Reservations are always recommended as Maui Sugar Beach Hostel is always busy. For more information see our hostel reservation page.
How much time am I given for a cancellation?
Hostel cancellations require 7 days notice. You will be charged for the entire reservation if you do not arrive or call to cancel your reservation.
How many nights can I stay at the Hostel?
You can stay as many nights as you wish.
Do you have weekly rates?
No, we do not have weekly or monthly rates.
Are towels and bed sheets provided?
Yes, we provide free of charge one complete set of freshly-washed bed sheets with pillow case, one bath towel & wash cloth, and one beach towel for each guest. We do not allow sleeping bags.
Is there a washer & dryer available for guest use?
Yes, there is an onsite coin-operated washer & dryer ($1.50 per load).
Is breakfast included?
No. Currently, we do not offer any food or beverage services; however, there are full kitchens in every unit for your convenience. We plan to offer continental breakfast in future.
Do you have internet service?
Yes, we provide wireless internet access for the entire building and you can use your own computers free of charge.
What time is check-out?
Check-out time is 11:00 am. There is a $15 per hour charge for late check out.
Do you have parking?
Yes, the inn has 7 parking spaces for guests onsite. There is also street parking in the cul de sac.
How do I get to the hostel?
We can pick you up at the airport if you like, or see our Location page for driving directions from Kahului airport and information about buses and shuttles.
What transportation is available on Maui?
The Inn is 9.5 miles (20 minutes) from OGG airport in Kahului. To get from the airport to the Inn, a personal meet and greet can be arranged in advance for $20. There are also Speedy Shuttles, taxis, rental cars, and the new "Maui Bus" which is only $1. No luggage is allowed on the bus other than bags that can be placed on your lap or under the seat. The Maui Bus goes to many areas of the island, including Lahaina, Wailea, Paia, and Haiku. There is a public bus stop 1 block from the Inn.
Is there a curfew?
There is no curfew. You may come and go as you please. We ask only that you show consideration for other travellers' rights to peace and quiet.
Do you allow inn guests to have visitors?
The inn facilities are for our paying guests only so we ask that you please refrain from bringing outside people to the inn.
Do you allow pets?
No. No dogs, no cats, no birds.
Is there a noise ordinance?
Yes, the ordinance is strictly enforced by our neighbors at 10pm. But that doesn't mean we don't have fun!
Do you provide meals?
We do not provide any food services at this time; however, there are many nice restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance, and each apartment has a complete kitchen for your convenience.
Are the dormitory rooms single sex?
No, but there are only 4 guests max per apartment, and we have added partitions for privacy. We always try to accommodate single travellers in single sex rooms. If you are travelling with your partner, we will give you the same room whenever possible.
What kind of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, American Travellers checks, and valid VISA, Master Card, or American Express. You must have a valid credit card to make a reservation.
Are there taxes on top of the nightly rates?
Yes. Hawaii State law requires that we collect a tax of 12.25% on all rentals.
What is your cancellation policy?
If your plans change, you will receive a full refund less the 10% deposit if you notify us more than 7 days in advance of check-in date. There are no refunds for cancellations made with less than 7 days notice.
